The Foundation for BID-Plymouth

For the past 110 years, Jordan Hospital was deeply rooted in philanthropy, thanks to the generosity of so many, beginning with our very first benefactor, Eben Jordan, Jr., and his visionary $20,000 gift to build a 14-bed cottage hospital in Plymouth. We know having a hospital here in Plymouth has saved countless lives over the past century, including the father of another of our benefactors, Lawrence Sykes, whom many of us knew and loved. In the 1920s, Mr. Sykes’ dad required emergency treatment for acute appendicitis - he would not have lived to reach a Boston hospital.

Philanthropy is also critical to securing the future of our Hospital. As a member of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center family, our community hospital, newly named BID-Plymouth, will continue to rely on the generous charitable support of those we serve. We will need your support going forward to constantly enhance programs and services, such as our budding family behavioral health program; to keep abreast of the latest advances in medicine and technology, and soon, to build a new and much needed Emergency Department.

Our deep gratitude for your faithful giving carries the assurance that every dollar raised in our community, now and in the future, will remain here for the benefit of our own families, friends and neighbors. Gifts of every size and type will continue to play a pivotal role, from annual giving to sustain operations to larger investments that enable major facility enhancements and equipment purchases, and gifts that provide funds into perpetuity. New in 2013, to help generate an income stream for the future, the Hospital’s Board of Directors established a policy where a percentage of all unrestricted bequests is earmarked for endowment. These endowed funds are permanently restricted, the original gift kept intact and invested. Per a set spending policy, annual earnings are used to help meet critical needs. Charitable gift annuities and other life income and planned gift vehicles also offer an opportunity to commit a future gift, with benefit to the donor during in his/her lifetime.
